I have been working in the print and publishing industry since 2003, when I started out as a junior designer for a small design company in Cape Town, where I mainly worked on tourism related publications and brochures. I later moved on to work for Hirt & Carter, where I learned all about Adobe InDesign and mastered the skill of typesetting. There I worked on educational publications for Maskew Miller Longman and typeset books for Oshun, an imprint of Struik Publishers (now known as Struik Random House). My ability to work fast combined with my meticulous nature made me very good at typesetting text heavy projects. This was proven during my time at Struik Christian Books (now Struik Christian Media) especially when I was given the hefty task of typesetting a Bible. A project that was well over a thousand pages! I completed this easily before my given deadline. Other projects at SCB included cover design and layout for various Christian Lifestyle, Christian Reference and Gift titles, as well as working on marketing material for the sales team. In 2008 I joined the creative team at Hand-Off Design and Publishing. There I had the opportunity to grow even further as a designer. Designing and working on projects for clients from various sectors and industries, local and abroad. One of my favourite projects was a student magazine I worked on, because it gave me the chance to play a lot with my creativity. At the end of 2010 my husband and I moved to the small town of Kakamas in the Northern Cape, where I am currently pursuing a career as a freelance graphic designer and DTP typesetter. |
